Free Windows 8/8.1 Music Player App: Music Mist
Music
Music Mist is available as a free download from the Windows App Store.
Features of Music Mist Music Player…
Music Mist, when launched on your device, will present you with an interface which looks like the below screenshot.
As you can see in the above window, you can see the music tracks stored in the default music directory, but if you wish to open music tracks stored elsewhere, simply click on the Search Folder button at the top right of the screen. Once you do that, you will be presented with the file browser screen, and you can navigate and select the folder where your music tracks are stored.
Click on Choose this folder, and you will be able to select it. The next thing, you will be taken back to the main screen of the app, and you will be presented with the album art tile of the tracks inside the folder, and upon clicking on the tile, you will be able to select the music tracks that you want to play.
You can see below that I have selected the Xscape album by Michael Jackson and I am easily able to playback the tracks inside the album. The list of tracks is displayed on the right side, and the playback controls are displayed on the left. You can click on any track inside the list of tracks to play it.
You can click on the back arrow button on the top left corner to return to the main screen of the app. Coming back to the main screen of the app, you can choose to view the tracks in the main screen in two different views, namely, Album view and All Songs view. You can select these views by clicking on the corresponding text at the top of the screen. The below screenshot demonstrates the album view, which is also the main screen of the app. You can access this mode by clicking on the Albums button at the top of the screen.
When you click on the All songs button at the top of the screen, you will be presented with a screen which looks like the below screenshot.
As you can see in the above screen, you can easily access the songs added to the player in a list view. The third button that you can see in the above screen at the top is the Album Edit button which allows you to change the track information of any track that you select, i.e., allows you to change the track’s title, etc. The app also supports snapped view, as you can see in the below screenshot.
Apart from the snapped mode, the app also supports background playback, which enables you to listen to the tracks while the app is minimized. This makes for a great feature when you are multitasking!
Overall, the app is pretty well designed, and is definitely worth a look!

The Verdict…
Music Mist is a great app to have on your device if you want to play music files on your device with ease. The app supports playback of all music formats like .mp3, .ogg, .wav etc., and you will definitely find it a great tool to playback your music files with ease and comfort on your device! I however do feel that the developers should add support for video file playback in future as well, and that would definitely make this one hell of an app!
For now, I’ll give this app a 4 out of 5.
