Free Windows 8 Mahjong Game App: Mahjong HD
Mahjong HD is a free Windows 8 Mahjong game app that allows you to play mahjong on your device. You might already be familiar with mahjong, and you might know that mahjong is a game in which you have to select two matching tiles on the board so as to match a pair and remove that pair from the board. The objective of the game is to finish the game with as little tiles left on the board as possible. Mahjong HD is based on the same principle where you have to click on a tile, and then click on another similar tile that is free (free means not surrounded by other tiles) to make a pair and remove that pair from the board. The gameplay is smooth, and the game works well on all Windows 8 and 8.1 devices, be them touch or non-touch devices.

Gameplay of this Windows 8 Mahjong Game…
When you launch Mahjong HD game on your Windows 8/8.1 device, you will immediately be presented with the gameplay screen where you can see the tiles set in a complex pattern.
As you can see in the above screen, the gameplay looks decent. There are buttons in the top right corner of the screen that serve multiple purposes. Let’s see what they do.
- New Game: Clicking this button starts a new game, and resets whatever progress you have made in the previous game.
- Restart: This button restarts the game, but unlike the new game button where you get a completely different pattern of tiles, restart button resets your progress and provides you with the same set of tile arrangement that you started with. It’s basically the same as undoing all your moves.
- Change Layout: This button shuffles the tiles on the board in a different shape. You can see the screenshots below to see what the Change Layout button does every time you press it.
As you can see, the change layout button changes the pattern of tile arrangement every time you press it. - Possible Moves: This button shows you the number of moves possible in the given arrangement of the Mahjong tiles.
- Undo: Undoes the last move that you played.
- Show Hints: This button shows you hints of the tiles that you can pair up!
Throughout the game, you will stay entertained. When you successfully pair up two matching tiles that can be eliminated (i.e, don’t have any surrounding tiles or overlapping tiles), you gain points. The points will show up as your score at the bottom of the screen.
Overall, this is a really fun game to play on your Windows 8 device. It is sure to keep you hooked for long hours, and is definitely a game worth playing at least once!

The Verdict…
Mahjong HD is a cool game that keeps you hooked for hours, and is sure to keep you coming back for more. Even though the game has ads on the sides, I’m willing to give it a pass because of its low size and incredibly smooth graphics. So that’s my only complaint with the app – it has ads. Apart from that, the app is cool enough and smooth enough to deserve a 3.5 out of 5! I do hope that you will like it as well!
