Super Mario Style Windows 8 Game App: Candy Man
Candy Man is a free 2D game app for Windows 8 and 8.1 which will remind you of the popular Super Mario game. You can choose to start the gameplay or view the game’s credits when you launch the game. The object of the game is to collect all the fruits and candies on the map in each level while not falling on dangerous obstacles. The game uses easy controls – up arrow to jump, right and left arrow buttons to move around. The game is very lightweight and weighs less than 6MB, and the retro style graphics of the game will give you a pretty hefty nostalgic feeling!

The following screen will be displayed to you when you launch the game for the very first time.
As is evident from the self-explanatory main menu of the game, when you click on the PLAY button, you will be taken to the gameplay interface whereas clicking on the CREDITS button will take you to the credits roll screen. Once you click the PLAY button, you will be presented with the gameplay screen itself. As the controls of the game are not explained, I’m writing them below for your convenience.
Controls…
- Up Arrow: Jump
- Down Arrow: Fasten the speed of fall
- Right Arrow: Move right
- Left Arrow: Move left.
(All the above refer to keyboard controls).
Now that we are done with the controls, let’s see what the game itself looks like.
You can see the candy man jumping over the platform to collect candies in the screenshot above. Be careful not to fall from very high platform as that will kill you. You can see the timer and the score at the top of the screen. Once you complete a level by collecting all the candies on the map, you will be shown a confirmation prompt.
And the next level will then start automatically.
The one thing which I don’t really like about the game is the inability to pause the level. Apart from that, everything else about the game is pretty eye catchy and worthy of making it a great download on your device if you are a fan of retro style games!
