Note Taking Cum Translator App for Windows 8: ThinkNote

ThinkNote is a free note taking cum translator app for Windows 8 and 8.1 to take down notes as well as translate text to various languages. As a major strength of this app, this app allows you to sync all the notes that you take down to your OneNote. This way, you can have the notes that you took on ThinkNote available and synced across all of your Microsoft devices running Windows 8 or 8.1. The app has an uncluttered environment where the primary focus has been to make sure that you get a very basic editor interface while still having all the basic functionality like text formatting, changing text size etc. available at all times in the toggle dock at the top.

ThinkNote can be downloaded from the Windows App Store.

Features in brief…

THE LANDING PAGE…

When you launch the ThinkNote app on your device, you will be taken to the landing page of the app as can be seen in the screenshot below.

ThinkNote main screen

You can log in to the app by launching the control bar (by right clicking or swiping down from the top of the screen) which is needed if you need to sync your notes to OneNote. The app can easily log you in with your Microsoft account.

Once logged in, you can start using the app (although you can still use the app without logging in, logging in will allow you to access the complete functionality of the app).

THE EDITOR INTERFACE…

To access the editor interface, just click on the heading Editor in the main screen of the app, which will present you with the below screen.

ThinkNote editor interface

You can see that the app’s editor interface has all the text editing options in the tool bar at the top, and it also highlights the incorrect words. You can right click on the highlighted word to open up the menu of correct words suggested by the app’s built in spell checker.

As I had told you before in the intro to this article, the app allows you to sync your notes to your Microsoft OneNote account. You can do so via the control bar in the editor interface.

ThinkNote export to OneNote

Once exported, you can choose to open up the OneNote interface. Once opened up, it will open in a snapped format.

ThinkNote content synced to OneNote

You can see that the content has been synced successfully to OneNote! Do note that this is not possible if you don’t log in to the app, as the app needs access to your Microsoft id to sync content across to your OneNote.

THE TRANSLATOR INTERFACE…

In the main screen, if you choose to click on the heading Translate, you will be taken to the translator interface, where all you have to do is to type the text which you want to translate, highlight it and choose the language that you want to translate it to from the right side of the translator interface. Then, click on the Translate button at the top right. Below you can see the translator window opened up with sample text which I had written.
