Make Your Photos Talk With YAKiT For Windows 8

YAKiT is a free app for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 which allows you to bring your photos to life. All you have to do is to select a photo, add the mouth to it, and record a voice to make it appear as though the mouth on the photo is moving and your recorded voice is getting played back. You can also choose from a collection of built in templates to add your voice to them, and all you have to do is to press the record button, and finally configure the voice settings like voice pitch etc.

YAKiT is available for free from the Windows App Store.

Main features of YAKiT for Windows 8:

Let me first start off by saying that YAKiT is a wonderful app in all aspects. When you run the app post installation, you can create a new project by clicking on the Start New button at the center of the screen shown below.

YAKiT main screen

Clicking on the Start New button will take you to the main interface of the app where you can choose to open up your own photo, or you can also choose to record and add voice to a pre created template. For demonstration purposes, I’m using the pre created template which is available in the main interface under the Featured tab.

Do note that the app also allows you to click photos from your device’s webcam and allows you to edit those photos as well. So you can either go with the pre created templates, do a Web Photo Search (pink tile), use a photo from your device (My Photos), or use your webcam. I selected the first template under the Templates tab, and I was taken to the editing screen.

YAKiT record and adjust voice settings

You can record by clicking on the record button at the top right of the screen, and when you think you are done recording, you can click on the tick button at the top right. Do note that the record button changes to a tick button when you click on Record. After recording, you can also adjust the voice pitch, edit the scene or delete the scene altogether. All these options are available at the bottom and at the right side of the screen. You can then save the recording via the Save button in the control bar of the app. With this, I wind up the main features of the app.

You can also check out the Pict’Up and the Shareflag apps.

The verdict:

YAKiT is a well designed image editing app with a twist. It literally lets you add sounds to inanimate photos and you can create a good meme or a troll out of your images with this app. The app is a good picture editing tool in my opinion, and being lightweight, it really wins me over. The app literally has no ads whatsoever and being free, it’s really commendable how well it actually works!

I rate the YAKiT app a shining 4 out of 5!
