TheHindu is available for free from the Windows App Store.
Features of TheHindu for Windows 8:
When you install and launch TheHindu on your Windows 8 device, you will be presented with the main interface of the app itself which contains news items in a tiled format (see below screenshot).
As you can see in the above screenshot, the app allows you to see the various news items in a tiled format in the main screen of the app. The main news items are shown in large sized tiles at the left side of the app, and the remaining news items are shown in smaller sized tiles. You can click on any news item to be presented with a reader interface shown in the below screenshot.
You can return to the main screen of the app at any point of time by clicking on the back arrow button at the top left corner of the screen. In the main screen, if you scroll to the right, you will be able to access various categorically sorted news items. You can also access these categories easily by right clicking anywhere on the screen and choosing the category from the control bar at the top of the screen.
You can see in the above screenshot that the control bar allows you to choose between various categories like Business, Arts, etc. You can click onĀ any of these to be presented with relevant content on your screen. You can also snap the app towards one side of the screen if you are working on something else, and the app still remains completely functional, allowing you to read the news easily in snapped mode as well!
Overall, TheHindu is a pretty well designed app that allows you to read news with amazing ease on your Windows 8 device. You can easily download it off the Windows 8 Store for free, and stay updated with the latest happenings around the world!
The verdict:
There is absolutely no drawback that I felt while using TheHindu app on my device. The app was lag free, and at the same time, elegant and smooth. The interface was nice, and the support for snapped mode was a welcome addon. Overall, the app is designed to be extremely easy to use, while keeping the technical aspect of using the app extremely minimalist. There is nothing to hate about this app, and hence, it scores a 5 out of 5 rating!
