Free Internet Radio App For Windows 8: Car Radio

Car Radio is a free internet radio app for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 devices which lets you listen to multiple internet radio stations at the click of a button. The app has a clean interface which actually resembles an old car’s radio, and has dials that control the various settings. The circular knob at the left turns the power on or off (sound on or off), and the circular knob at the right puts the radio to sleep , i.e., automatically shuts it down after 20 minutes. Car Radio is a beautifully designed app that allows you to tune in to your stations by pressing the switches in the center of the console, and when you hover over the buttons, you will also be able to see the names of the radio stations that will be played by pressing the button.

Car Radio is available for free from the Windows App Store.

Features of Car Radio for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1:

When you install and launch the Car Radio app on your Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 device, you will be presented with a radio like interface on your screen which will allow you to play the various internet radio stations using the buttons and toggles on the radio’s interface. You can see the main screen of the app in the above screenshot.

In the above screen, you first need to click on the circular dial at the left side of the radio player. This is the power button. Once you have pressed that, you can click on any of the BC BC BC FM FM buttons, and each of these will play back a unique radio station. When I pressed on a button, I was taken to the Radio Paradise internet radio, and the tracks were playing back exceptionally smoothly and almost flawlessly. You can see the playback screen below.

You can see the playback toggles at the bottom, and you can also see the volume slider at the bottom as well. You can also snap this app to the side of the screen while you are listening to music, and that way, you can easily multitask! The app is fully functional in snapped mode and all the buttons and toggles work perfectly fine, but the drawback is that the size of the buttons gets reduced. The snapped view can be seen below.

You can see that the app is conveniently snapped to the left side of the screen without using up too much of screen space. Another good feature of the app is that it is completely free from ads of all kinds, and that is really a welcome feature indeed!

You can also check out the Ministry of Sound and the Soundtracker internet radio apps for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1!

The verdict:

Car Radio is indeed a great internet radio app for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 devices. The app is available as a free download, and the best part is that it allows you to listen to music in snapped mode as well, thereby allowing for multitasking. The app’s interface looks gorgeous, resembling a retro style car radio, and I love it for its functionality.

I rate the app a 4 out of 5!
