Free Feed Reader App For Windows 8: Veen Reader

Veen Reader is a free feed reader application for Windows 8 and 8.1 devices which allows you to easily and comfortably read feeds from a variety of websites that support RSS feeds. The app has a nice interface and supports setting up either a local account, or a Feedly account. Once you have started the app, you will be shown a brief help section of the app from where you can learn about the various tips and tricks of using the app on your device. The app can fetch feeds from multiple websites at once, and this makes for a good way to have all your favorite content at one place.

Veen Reader is available for free from the Windows App Store.

Main features of Veen Reader for Windows 8 and 8.1:

Veen Reader when installed and launched on your device will present you with an interface as you can see in the screenshot below.

In the above screen, you can either choose to create a local account (The red button) or create a Feedly account (the green button). Once you have selected either of those choices and finally set up the app, you will be presented with an interface as shown below.

The above screen is the screen wherein you will be able to read the help section/introduction of the app. At the bottom of the above shown screen, you will be able to see a blue colored Go To App button which you can click on to skip this introduction, or you can click on the arrow buttons on either side of the screen to see the various pages of the introduction. Once inside, you will be shown a screen as you can see below.

The above screen is the add feed screen. Simply enter the URL whose feeds you want to fetch, and you will be shown the page result, if it supports feeds. As an example, I used http://ilovefreesoftware.com in the search bar, and pressed enter, and you can see the feed subscription link in the above screenshot. Simply click on the item displayed, and press the Subscribe button to subscribe to the feed. Now the app should automatically fetch your feeds and they will be displayed in the main screen of the app as you can see in the below screenshot.

You can also see yourself logged in at the bottom left of the screen. You can access the various categories from the pane on the left. The items that you click on at the left will appear in a larger size towards the right side of the screen. The app also has twin control bars at the top and at the bottom of the screen which can be accessed at any point of time by right clicking on the screen. You can see them in the below screenshot.

At the bottom of the screen, you can choose to sync the data again, set the reading options etc. For instance, clicking on the Reading Options button at the bottom will allow you to tweak the below shown settings.

Similarly, you can also sort various stuff via the sort button.

At the top control bar, you can click on the subscribe button to add more feeds. This basically is a wrap for the main features of the Veen Reader app for Windows 8 and 8.1. You can also check out the Dailyaha and Feedlets apps for Windows 8 and 8.1.

The verdict:

Veen Reader is a very well designed app for Windows 8 and 8.1 which allows you to read feeds from a variety of websites and sources and hence makes for a good way to read stuff on your Windows 8 or 8.1 device. Overall, it has a nice feel to it, and the minimalist interface helps keep the reading experience flawless.
