Time Mysteries 2: The Ancient Spectres is a free Windows 8 adventure game which is based on the click and play principle. The entire gameplay is set in ancient time of the 19th century where you have to collect clues and uncover the mysteries. One of the fun parts of the game is that you can travel back and forth in time to collect clues, which is basically something new. Throughout the game, you get clues like letters, photos, posters, etc. Some levels require you to play a hidden object scene where you have to search all the objects listed at the bottom by finding them in a pile of a lot of stuff, and you can collect these by clicking on them. You can also play an alternative game instead of the hidden object level if you find that level in which you have to make combinations of similar orbs and collect the question marks on the screen.

When you install and launch the game, you will be presented with an interface which looks like the below screenshot.
Simply click on the Play Now button in the bottom left to begin the gameplay. Once you click on the Play Now button, you will be presented with a game introduction movie which lasts about 30 seconds. This game movie is shot in a cinematic style.
Once the movie ends, you are presented with the main menu of the game itself. Here you will be prompted to enter your name.
Upon entering the name, you can click on the Play button to start the game. The game play is pretty easy to understand. There are no complex controls, and all you have to do is to use mouse clicks to pick up items, looks for clues, talk to strangers, etc. Basically the only control is the mouse click. Below, you can see a hidden object search level. At the end of a hidden object search level, you will be provided with either a valuable clue or a much needed inventor item that can be used to unlock a clue. Once you successfully click on the hidden objects listed at the bottom of the screen, you will see that those items are struck off from the list.
You can use the hints button (the question mark button) at bottom left to find the objects that you can’t locate. This button stays throughout the game in the bottom left corner, and you can use it pretty much whenever and wherever you get stuck, and it will point you to the correct direction. Inside a hidden object search level like the above screenshot, you can click on the small blue button right next to the question mar button to start an alternative game if you find yourself stuck in the hidden object search level.
In the alternate game, you have to pick up the question marks by eliminating the orbs next to them. You can eliminate the orbs by clicking on the orbs which are right next to each other, and the entire connected orb chain of that particular type will be eliminated, and if there is a question mark next to the chain, that question mark (or the clue) will be picked up. The game also allows you to travel in time by clicking on the button at the far right of the screen at the bottom. This is handy when you are asked to collect clues from another time zone.

The verdict…
Time Mysteries 2: The Ancient Spectres is a great game with amazing graphics that is suitable for being played by kids and adults alike, and I must say that although I installed the game for reviewing it for all you lovely readers, but I found myself actually playing the game for a much much longer time. The game has everything that makes it an awesome game, right from the incredible graphics, to the breathtaking background track which itself has a sense of mystery to it, to the cut scene movies. In its entirety, I must say that this is a beautifully implemented concept altogether, and the only complaint I have with this game is its large size of about 300 Mb.
This game deserves a 4.5 out of 5 rating.
