Screen Sleep Preventer is available for free from the Windows App Store.
Main features of Screen Sleep Preventer for Windows 8 and 8.1:
When you install and launch the Screen Sleep Preventer app on your Windows 8 or 8.1 machine, you will be presented with the main interface of the app which looks like the below screenshot.
This main interface of the app is the only interface that the app technically has. The app has no toggles, no configurable settings except for the About button at the top right corner of the screen. When you click on this button at the top right screen corner, you will be shown the below screen.
Now you can start using the app. To prevent your system’s screen from going to sleep, simply snap the app to the left side of the screen.
You can also snap the app to the right side of the screen.
Or, you can simply choose to make it stay minimized in the background. As long as the app is running in the system’s memory, it doesn’t really matter and it will continue to work well and will easily accomplish the task of making your system stay awake. What I truly love about the app is its lightweight size and its memory consumption stats which are next to zero. The app doesn’t drain a lot of battery as well! I can confirm that it prevents the system from going to sleep as I have my sleep timer set to 15 minutes, and well over 30 minutes, my laptop running Windows 8.1 didn’t go to sleep when this app was running. So I can say that this is a truly functional app for which you might find a lot of use for. The app may be used if you are watching movies, or if you are working on something and you don’t want your system to go to sleep midway between your work.
Screen Sleep Preventer is a well designed app for Windows 8 and 8.1 which is completely functional and makes sure that your device doesn’t go to sleep while the app is running. The app is very minimal and doesn’t get in the way of your tasks and this is what makes me really like the app.
I rate the app a 4 out of 5!
