Lightweight Video Player App for Windows 8: Movies Player

Movies Player is an extremely lightweight video player app for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, weighing in at just 78 Kb. When you download and launch the app, you will be presented with the main interface of the app which allows you to open video files from your device into the app. You will be shown with the tiles of the video files present in your Videos directory in the main interface of the app by default, and you can also choose to open up a specific video file via the Open File button present in the control bar of the app. Then, you can simply navigate via the file explorer window and then choose the video file that you wish to play back. The biggest strength of the app is that it supports a large range of video formats for playback, including mp4, avi, wmv, etc.

Movies Player can be downloaded and installed off the Windows App Store for absolutely free.

The main features of Movies Player for Windows 8:

Upon installing and launching the Movies Player app on your Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 device, you will be presented with the main interface of the app, which directly off the bat shows you a quick preview of the video files stored in your Videos directory. You can choose to play these back by clicking on their thumbnails, or you can also choose to open a particular file via the Control Bar (which can be brought up by right clicking the screen), and choosing the Open File button. You can see the main interface of the app in the below screenshot, with the control bar opened up at the bottom.

Once you have chosen a video file for playback, you will be taken to the playback screen (full screen mode) where you can see the video being played back smoothly. You can reveal the playback controls by hovering over the video being played back. As you can see below, the playback screen is minimalistic with clean controls that allow you to easily play, pause or seek the video.

You can see the pause, fast forward and the rewind buttons at the center of the screen, and just below them is the seek bar, which can be used to fine fast forward or rewind the video. These controls hide automatically, providing you a clean experience. You can return to the main screen by right clicking in the video playback screen, and then clicking on the back arrow button in the control bar at the top of the screen. Another nice feature of the Movies Player app is that it allows for playback even in snapped mode, and you can see this clearly in the below screenshot. This allows you to multitask in desktop mode while watching the video at the same time. All the controls can be easily used in snapped mode as well (controls appear by hovering over the video).
