Free Windows 8 Game To Cut Fruits: Pencil Blade

Pencil Blade is a free game for Windows 8 devices that allows you to cut fruits with mouse swipes on your screen. The game has been designed in a way such that the fruits and the blade swipes look like they have been drawn on paper with a pencil, and I assume that that’s where the game derives its name from – Pencil Blade. The game has extremely smooth graphics, and although it can be easily played on non touch devices as well with the help of a touchpad or an external mouse, the game is more enjoyable on tablets and touch screen devices. The game is lightweight and does not have ads, and hence is a great alternative to other paid fruit slicing games.

Pencil Blade is available for free from the Windows App Store.

Features of Pencil Blade for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1:

When you install and launch the Pencil Blade game on your device, you will be presented with an interface like the below screenshot.

Pencil Blade main menu

The above screen is the main menu of the game. In the above screen, you can see the number of coins that you have, toggle the sound and music options, and also choose to access the settings of the app, start a new game, view the leaderboards or see the game objectives. The coins in the game can be used to purchase more blades in the game settings. To start a new game, simply slice on the New Game strawberry in the middle of the screen, and you will be taken to the gameplay screen.

Pencil Blade gameplay

In the gameplay, you have to avoid slicing the bombs that will occasionally appear from the bottom, and you have to slice the fruits that fly up. Try to slice more fruits in a go, and you will get a combo. Suppose you slice 3 fruits at a go, you get 6 points instead of just 3, because you get 3 for slicing 3 fruits, and another +3 for the three fruit combo. Similarly, you will get +4 for a 4 fruit combo and so on. Your score will appear at the top left corner of the screen, and you have three lives, i.e., you can miss slicing two fruits only. If you miss slicing three fruits, it’s game over. Alternatively, if you slice a bomb, again, it’s game over. When the game gets over, you will be shown your final score and also be awarded with certain number of coins.

From the above screen, you can either choose to restart the level or return to the main menu. In the main menu, if you slice the Objectives fruit, you will be shown the objectives that you have to complete.

You can also go to the game settings by slicing on the gear icon at the bottom right, and from this screen, you can choose to change your blade, the background and the color theme. Do note that changing the blade can only be done in exchange for coins, which you have to earn by playing more and more games.
